| POSTOPERATIVE INSTRUCTIONS FOR COLPOSCOPY. |
|
You have just had a minor surgical operation or procedure. If you have any problems or questions please do not hesitate to call the office. While you are recovering here are a few things to keep in mind.
What to Expect
If you have a Colposcopy without a biopsy, you should feel fine right away. You can do the things you normally do. You may have a little spotting for a couple of days.
If you have a Colposcopy with a biopsy, your vagina may feel sore for 1or 2 days. You may have some vaginal bleeding. You also may have a dark discharge for a few days. This may occur from medication used to help stop bleeding at the biopsy site. You may need to wear a sanitary pad until the discharge stops.
Things to AVOID as You Recover
Although you can return to most of your normal activities soon after Colposcopy, it's important to help your cervix heal by avoiding the following for at least 3-4 weeks after the procedure.
- Sexual intercourse
- Tampons
- Douching
- Tub baths
- Heavy lifting or vigorous exercise
When to Call your Doctor Be sure to call your doctor immediately if you experience any of the following:
- Heavy bleeding ( using more than one sanitary pad per hour) or bleeding with clots
- Severe and persistent abdominal pain
- Fever above or equal to 100.4 F
- Foul-smelling vaginal discharge
